Upper Reaches

Whilst the individual pools are less defined, the lower part of the upper section
contains our “Sandy Bay” and “Otter Stone” pools, where a slightly deeper, boulder
laden channel starts to form, offering some fantastic salmon lies throughout.

Middle Reaches

The middle section of the fishery sees the biggest variation in water, with slower
flowing pools such as “Floating Bank” offering stark contrast to the steeper gradient,
and faster flow of the pools downstream of “Lairds Cast”, which itself can be a
natural resting place for any fish having moved up through the heavy water below.

Lower Reaches

With the famous Roe Pot located within the lower section, it is an area of the beat
which will fish throughout the season, offering somewhere for the angler at all water
heights. In a bigger water, fish will often hold within this section before taking on the
heavier flowing rapids which they are faced with upstream of the “Upper Roe Pot”
and “House Pool”. The “Roe Pot” was described by John Ashley Cooper in his book; The Great Salmon Rivers of Scotland (1980), as one of the best pools on the middle river.
